Concerning intrusive ads on third party websites

By The Gay Report Editorial Board

It has been brought to our attention that some links on The Gay Report lead to websites and articles with intrusive ads in which a user is not able to "skip" and go directly to the article.

We have reviewed these sites and find that these ads are very distracting and devalues user experience. As a news site ourselves we understand that ad revenue is important to bring you content free of charge. The Gay Report, as a matter of fact, does not link to articles where readers must pay to read. We believe that user friendly normal ad placements are fine and acceptable. But when a site forces users to view videos or other advertisement as a condition to reading the article or material we must consider this a form of "payment" and it therefore violates our content guidelines on pay to read articles.

From now on we will continue to link to articles from these sites only if such content is exclusively available on that site and only if it does not charge readers a fee or membership charge as a form of payment to continue reading.

These sites will continued to be monitored for any improvement. We also encourage our readers to contact such sites and leave appropriate feedback.

The Gay Report is striving to make sure content is user friendly. If you find any sites that we link to be objectionable please contact us and let us know and we will take a look.

UPDATE: This new policy will not affect video articles.
